River Crossing YMCA Introduces RCY Sports, Opens New State-Of-The-Art Sports Center in Doylestown
DOYLESTOWN — River Crossing YMCA is announcing the opening of the newly constructed RCY Sports Center on its Doylestown campus at 2500 Lower State Road. A Grand Opening Celebration, open to the community, will take place on August 5 from 5 to 7 PM. The Y is hosting a free Meet the Coaches event from 5-6 PM on June 10. Classes start June 15.
The facility converts former outdoor courts into a fully enclosed, climate-controlled field house with three courts available year-round, including two multi-purpose hard courts lined for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, and one turf court designed for soccer, lacrosse, flag football and field hockey.
The opening of the RCY Sports Center coincides with the Y’s unveiling of its new sports brand, RCY Sports, which focuses classes, clinics and sports league programs on building life skills, self-esteem and YMCA values.
“Every kid deserves the opportunity to play and compete in a sport that they love,” said Zane Moore, president/CEO of River Crossing YMCA. “Today’s environment with travel leagues makes the costs and competition levels difficult for families to meet. At the YMCA, our goal is to create welcoming and affordable classes, leagues and team travel experiences where every athlete, at any age, plays.”
Basketball, volleyball and pickleball classes are among the slate of programs to be offered on the new hard courts, with soccer and flag football coming to the new turf field. The facility will also support summer camp programs beginning this year. Adult basketball leagues in both full-court and side-court formats will run with regular seasons and playoffs.
The RCY Sports Center will be open to members and non-members. It is ADA-compliant and staffed during all operating hours. Space is available for community rentals, including leagues, tournaments, clinics and school programs.
“What we’ve found in our research is that when youth programs are designed around effort and improvement rather than selection and ranking, more kids continue to participate and carry the benefits into adulthood,” shared Andrew Yannarella, VP of operations who oversees sports programs for the Y. “These are the principles grounding our new RCY Sports programs and facilities.”
Opening the new sports center in Doylestown follows the opening of a new RCY Gymnastics Center in Quakertown, home of the Y’s competitive Infinity Gymnastics team. The Y is also preparing to break ground on a new RCY Sports Center at the Quakertown branch.
Yannarella shared further benefits of values-infused sports participation:
- Significant positive effects on physical activity levels from childhood through adulthood, across diverse populations
- Reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression compared to non-participants
- Higher self-esteem and emotional intelligence, particularly in team contexts
- Greater prosocial behavior, wellbeing, and sense of belonging among socially vulnerable youth
- Life skills, including resilience, self-regulation, and teamwork that transfer measurably into school and community life
A Meet the Coaches free preview session, held in the main gym of the Doylestown branch on June 10 from 5 to 6 PM, will offer families the opportunity to participate in fun drills and tour the new facility. A Friday Night Playmakers (fee-based) multi-sport clinic for ages 5 to 12 on June 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM will be held in the new sports center. More information about upcoming programs, clinics and leagues can be found on the Y’s RCY Sports Center webpage.
