Our Quakertown gymnastics center features a full competitive 45’x45’ spring floor, a 60 ' additional spring tumbling strip, 2 AAI vaulting tables, one vault foam trainer, two competitive AAI bar set, strap bar, and seven balance beams (four of which are AAI spring competition beams)and 30′ long TumblTrak.
Gymnasts have the opportunity to compete at the local, state, regional and national level. Our team athletes will compete Eastern PA YMCA Girls Gymnastics League and may be invited to compete in USAG Gymnastics as well.
The Quakertown team holds several state titles and has gymnasts qualify at the national level for YMCA Nationals for the past 30 years. Athletes in our class programs will be invited to team tryouts in the summer once they are in the level 4 class program.

Competitive Gymnastics Team, Quakertown
Athletes in our competitive gymnastics team will be invited to join after finishing Level 4 class in progressive classes. Meet our Gymnastics Staff
The gymnastics team staff at Quakertown YMCA has distinguished themselves in the gymnastics community because of their focus on safety, attention to technique, skill progressions, and the success of their gymnasts. All YMCA staff has CPR and First Aid certification, Safe Sport Training, PA Child Abuse background check, Criminal Record Check, and FBI fingerprinting criminal history background check. MANAGEMENT STAFF
Janine Brown
Director of Gymnastics and Head Gymnastics Coach
Janine oversees the whole team program and will be coaching Level 4,6,7, 8,9, Xcel Gold and Platinum. She began her gymnastics coaching career with the Upper Bucks YMCA in 1985. 2022-2023 will be her 37th season coaching gymnastics. Prior to that time she was a Parkettes Gymnastics Team Member for eight years. She competed in college gymnastics for two years at the University of Bridgeport. She was gymnastics camp director for Northern Lights Gymnastics Summer Camp at Dartmouth College, NH, for four years, and was a team coach at Watkins Gymnastics in West Chester, PA. In 1997, she became the head coach of the Upper Bucks Y gymnastics team and, in 1999, became the Gymnastics Coordinator. In 2007, she accepted the Gymnastics Director position. Janine has her USA Gymnastics Safety Certification, USA Gymnastics Professional Membership, USAG Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction, USAG Safesport certification, Y Gymnastics Instructor certification, Darkness to Light certified, Youth Mental Health Certification, has attended workshops given by USA Gymnastics for the new compulsory routines, and is CPR and first aid certified. In addition to coaching she has been choreographing routines for 30+years and will be responsible for composing and choreographing most optional level routines. Janine is the President of the Eastern PA YMCA Girls Gymnastics League and Secretary of PA YMCA Girls Gymnastics. She graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
Jolene Head
Associate Director of Gymnastics and Team Coach
Jolene will be coaching Level 4,6,7,8,9, Xcel Silver, Xcel Gold, Xcel Platinum. She also oversees our class program and will be integral in building the class participants to be ready for the team program. Jolene was a competitive gymnast for eight years in South Africa. She began her coaching career in South Africa in 1995 and coached until 2002 when she moved to the United States to be a youth counselor. She began coaching gymnastics again at the Y in 2018. She has a master’s degree in counseling and restorative practices. She is married and has two sons and is happy to share her wisdom with children. She has attended workshops given by USA Gymnastics for the new compulsory routinesand is CPR and first aid certified.
COACHES
Nicole Balcavage
Team Coach Level 4, 6, 7, 8,9, Xcel Gold and Platinum
Nicole began coaching at the Y in the fall of 2016. She is a former gymnast with 7 years of competition experience. Nicole has her USA Gymnastics Safety Certification and USA Gymnastics Professional Membership, USAG Safesport certification and is CPR and first aid certified. She graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and from Villanova with an MBA.
Angela Burns
Team Coach Level 3,4,6,7,8,9 and all levels of Xcel
Angela, a former EPYGGL competitive gymnast, believes in the Y's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. For more than 12 years, she has coached gymnasts ranging from levels 3 to 9 and Xcel Silver to Diamond. She has her USA Gymnastics Safety Certification, USA Gymnastics Professional Membership, USAG Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction, and USAG Safesport certification. She has attended workshops given by USA Gymnastics for the new compulsory routines and is firstaid and CPR certified.
Bethany Miorelli
Team Coach Level 4,6,7,8, 9, Xcel Gold and Platinum
Bethany is a former competitive club gymnast at Silvia's Gymnastics who earned an Athletic Scholarship to the University of Bridgeport for their Division 2 gymnastics program. She was a beam specialist who was part of the 2014 team who won UB's sixth consecutive USAG National Gymnastics Title. At UB, she also received her bachelors in health science and went on to graduate school at Drexel University to earn a Masters of Science in Human Nutrition. Throughout undergrad and grad school, she was a gymnastics coach at various gyms in CT, as well as Liberty Bell Athletics (formerly Montco Gym) in Montgomery County, PA. During her time at Liberty Bell, she was the head coach of the level 6-7 gymnastics team. Bethany began coaching at YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties in January of 2021. Bethany is currently a registered dietitian.
Marissa Wagner
Team Coach Xcel Silver, Level 3, and preteam program
Marissa was a previous Upper Bucks YMCA gymnast for 6 years. She began her coaching career in 2015. She has a Occupational Therapy Assistant, with a speciality in Brain Injury Rehab. In addition to coaching, she works for a chiropractor part time.
Abbie Wilhelm
Team Coach Xcel Silver and Level 3, and preteam program
Abbie has been coaching with the Y since the summer of 2021. She was a previous Level 6 gymnast for YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties. She has attended workshops given by USA Gymnastics for the new compulsory routines, and she is CPR and First Aid certified.
Jade Wilhelm
Team Coach Level 3,4,6,7,8,9 and all levels of Xcel
Jade began her coaching career in 1988. She has taught gymnastics at Future Stars Gymnastics, Miss Cindy’s School of Dance, Tumble with Denise, Flipps in Hewitt, Texas, and Power and Grace Gymnastics. She began coaching for the Y in the spring of 2017. She has her USA Gymnastics Safety Certification, USA Gymnastics Professional Membership, USAG Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction, USAG Safesport certification, she has attended workshops given by USA Gymnastics for the new compulsory routines, and is first aid and CPR certified. Jade will also assist with choreographing Xcel routines. She has a math degree from Baylor University and her teaching certificate from Kutztown University.
